Hometown Heroes Housing Program Reopens in Florida
Florida Reopens Its Hometown Heroes Housing Program with Fresh Funding
Florida has relaunched its Hometown Heroes Housing Program, now backed by $50 million in new assistance funding. The program is aimed at helping eligible frontline workers—including teachers, nurses, first responders, military members, and other essential employees—get closer to homeownership.
Who Qualifies?
Applicants must be:
Employed full-time in Florida as a healthcare worker, school staffer, first responder, public safety or court employee, or childcare worker
A U.S. military member, reservist, Coast Guard personnel (or reserves), or Florida National Guard member
A veteran employed full-time by a Florida-based organization
What’s Offered?
The program provides up to 5% of the first mortgage amount, ranging from a $10,000 minimum to a $35,000 maximum, to assist with down payments and closing costs.
This comes as a 0% interest, 30-year deferred second mortgage—repayable only if the home is sold, refinanced, transferred in title, or no longer serves as your primary residence.
Added Benefits
Competitive interest rates on FHA, VA, USDA-RD, and conventional loans
No origination or discount points
Lower upfront fees
Extra benefits available for veterans and active-duty military personnel
Why Act Fast?
The program operates on a first-come, first-served basis—and funding moves quickly. Last year’s support ran out in just a few months.
Florida Realtors 2025 President Tim Weisheyer sums it up well:
“Homeownership builds wealth, creates stability—and this program helps thousands of hardworking Floridians take that step.”
